It swung up and down between 190-300 for about six hours. I had one crazy night doing a brisket where my temp alarm on my thermoworks smoke said 290. It maintains temp within 15-20 degrees in all weather. I did five racks of baby backs Saturday and I could have done one or two more on top shelf that comes standard. It’s also easy to clean out with a shop vac. I did it all myself other than lifting the barrel onto the stand. I use a smoke tube because the pellet smoker just doesn’t give a strong smoke flavor without the tube. I have not been disappointed with the quality of build or results. They give you sauce, rubs and pellets for free when you pick one up anyway. I decided to bite the bullet and get the Silverbac Alpha and I did get some pellets. They were swamped that Saturday morning, but I was treated with respect and kindness. I was impressed with the model and the customer service reviews. ![]() I decided to take a family trip up there just to look at it before deciding. My wife was fine with the Silverbac price and just wanted me to be happy. Originally, I really wanted to stay around $500, but I quickly realized that if I wanted a quality product I would have to pony up the $$. I kept my wife in the loop while thinking about it. Turned out I live only an hour and a half from their headquarters in Holland, Michigan. I looked them up because I was curious about the double wall construction of the lower barrel portion. RecTec was obviously highly rated and I accidentally stumbled upon a video on YouTube of someone giving a review of the Silverbac after two years of use I think. I really couldn’t even remember which brand he said he had, but I started researching them. My boss at the time was telling me about some meat he had smoked and he said he had a pellet smoker. I was tired of the electric so I decided I wanted something a little more authentic. It worked ok for a year then the heater controller went out. ![]() It finally gave up the ghost so I purchased another one. It was a gift from my in laws at the time. I had used a Masterbuilt electric smoker for years. I really wasn’t even aware of pellet grill/smokers. Well worth the extra $100 I spent on it, as far as value for my needs goes. The RT just ticked more boxes for me at that price. WIFI, double wall on entire cook chamber, $100 less than it is. I should have spent that money I saved on not needing a thermometer on the cart upgrade.Īny 2 of the following 3 things would have sold me on the GG. Also, buy the all weather vents if you’re not under a roof. Most people probably leave it on their deck and just cover it, so the standard cart would be fine for that. I should have splurged for the better cart. That would have been the same with the GG standard cart, I assume. So better mobility would have been great for me. I store it in my garage and pull it out when I cook. Only thing I don’t like about my 590 is the cart. I can start on “low” which pushes more smoke, and bump that up to my cooking temp when I decide it’s time. That’s big for me because I work from home and have meeting and am on calls 90% of my day. The WiFi and temp probes mean I don’t have to spend 100-200 for a wifi thermometer, plus I can adjust temps remotely.
